Photojournalism

Photos are an important component of any story. I like to use photos to help audiences "see through my eyes" and experience what I experienced covering these events.

For my feature article, I chose to cover an interest that I discovered in early 2023, racing. After learning more about motorsport, I was confronted by the lack of diversity in the drivers at the pinnacle of the sport and set out to uncover why that is. During my process, I attended a kart race as well as a stock car race and took copious amounts of photos and videos. The high speed nature of the sport made it challenging to get the correct framing and reduce the amount of blur in the photos, leading me to explore different shutter speeds and modes on my DSLR.

For my first news article, I covered the 2022 San Carlos Arts and Wine Festival, a lively in-person event. At every turn there was another performance, activity, or food stall to take pictures of. View the full story and additional photos at the link above.

When I heard that City College of San Francisco had become the first community college to offer Cantonese certificates, I was interested in the story because of the opportunity it offered me to connect with an aspect of my culture. The advocates for the certificates held a party to celebrate their victory. I took some photos to capture the joyous celebration.
